The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province is undergoing a major transformation in terms of road infrastructure, with one of the most significant projects currently under construction being the Swat Motorway Phase-II (M-16). This ambitious motorway project spans 248 kilometers, connecting Karnal Sher Khan Interchange on M-1 all the way to Madyan and Fatehpur in the scenic Swat Valley. 

The Swat Motorway is part of a broader strategy to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel times, and promote economic growth in northern Pakistan. The first phase of the Swat Motorway, which connects Karnal Sher Khan Interchange to Chakdara, has already been completed and has received positive feedback from the public for drastically cutting down travel time and improving road safety.

Now, Phase-II takes this vision further, extending the route deep into the Swat Valley. The second phase begins at Chakdara and passes through important towns such as Matta, Khwazakhela, Madyan, and ends near Fatehpur. This phase will consist of tunnels, flyovers, interchanges, and modern safety features to ensure smooth and secure travel through the mountainous terrain.

The total distance of 248 kilometers will connect remote and rural areas of Swat with the rest of Pakistan, especially the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. This is expected to boost tourism, agriculture, local businesses, and overall socio-economic conditions in the region. Swat is already a well-known tourist destination, famous for its lush green valleys, rivers, and pleasant weather. The new motorway will make it more accessible for domestic and international tourists alike.

The project is being developed under the supervision of the Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority (PKHA), with support from both the provincial and federal governments.
